Shirley Qiu is the audience engagement strategist at the American Press Institute, where she helps newsrooms across the country use data to better understand and engage their audiences. She also serves as the VP of Communications for the Asian American Journalists Association and is a 2020 graduate of Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media.
Previously, she worked at The Seattle Times, where she focused on audience engagement for the Features section and Sunday magazine, and co-led the newsroom’s mentorship program after having participated in ONA’s inaugural Journalism Mentorship Collaborative fellowship. She graduated from the University of Washington with a double degree in journalism and international studies.
