Director of Training and Service, Report for America
Rachel heads training for Report for America, a national service program that places emerging journalists into local newsrooms. She also works with the journalists on their service projects, supporting youth media or student newspapers. Rachel has worked as managing editor of The GroundTruth Project and managing producer of the GroundTruth podcast. The projects she led received a National Murrow Award, several Regional Murrow Awards and an Online Journalism Award. Rachel was a public radio journalist for several years, including running the digital side of NPR’s Here & Now show. Rachel was a 2018-19 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where she focused on teenagers’ media habits and preferences, and how news organizations can better serve teens. Rachel started her journalism career as a reporter on Martha’s Vineyard. Her past adventures include living on a sailboat and tour guiding at the Vatican. Rachel is a Boston native living in Milwaukee.
