Rachel helps lead Report for America, a national service program that places early-career journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities, while helping newsrooms sustain the positions through local philanthropy. Her work includes training and onboarding, program operations and evaluation, and youth media projects. Rachel has worked as managing editor of The GroundTruth Project and managing producer of the GroundTruth podcast. The projects she led received a National Murrow Award, several Regional Murrow Awards and an Online Journalism Award. Rachel was a public radio journalist for several years, including running the digital side of NPR’s Here & Now show. Rachel was a 2018-19 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where she focused on teenagers’ media habits and preferences, and how news organizations can better serve teens. Rachel started her journalism career as a newspaper reporter on Martha’s Vineyard. Her past adventures include living on a sailboat and tour guiding at the Vatican. Rachel is a Boston native living in Milwaukee.
