Julie Westfall is a product manager at The Philadelphia Inquirer, where she focuses on stories and the tools needed to tell them. Previously, she led editorial and news product operations at The Compass Experiment, a local news experiment operated by McClatchy.

She has also been an editor at the Los Angeles Times, where she led news teams and developed digital news products. At The Times, she was part of the team that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for coverage of the San Bernardino terrorist attack. She also led a national breaking news team for Digital First Media and worked to build a breaking news strategy at NPR-affiliate KPCC in Los Angeles. She was part of the team that launched TBD.com, a local news startup that covered the Washington metro area, and ran a community newspaper and website serving Capitol Hill. She earned a journalism degree from the University of Illinois and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali.
