Colleen Shalby is a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, where she reports on happenings in California and for the past year, has covered the pandemic and the vaccine rollout. Prior to her role in the newspaper’s Metro section, she was an engagement editor for politics covering the 2016 presidential election and the 2018 midterm election.

She was part of the staff that won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news and the team that was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for breaking news in 2020. She is a graduate of Poynter’s 2018 Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media and is Secretary for the Media Guild of the West, which represents journalists of the L.A. Times union and a growing group of media outlets.

Colleen previously worked for PBS NewsHour and is a graduate of the George Washington University, where she majored in American Studies and minored in journalism.
